Every time you write a piece of content, be that for a blog post, email or landing page, you must think like your customer.

How are you going to increase and nurture leads into customers, if you don't ensure that your copy is speaking to them and engaging them, not merely selling to them?

Just as much as "content is king", there is also a "power of words", with certain ones evoking more power than others.

Everyone who takes an interest in content and copy writing knows this. For instance, in the online news industry, headlines are only 9 words long (typically speaking) and must include keywords which will entice search engines and site visitors alike.

Newspapers have certain rhetoric, with a focus on emphatic words that encourage emotion in readers and therefore entice them to read on. The "tragic car accident" has power, just like "the car smashed into the bridge", rather than "there was a car crash at the bridge".

It has been proven in a social psychological study that action words create effect among readers and listeners alike.

  • TOP TIP: When you want people to take action, suggest the action through a word that creates reason.

Never leave it at "Sign Up", instead develop it into "Sign Up Now For Exclusive Content".
