How to Enjoy the First Bank Holiday of the Year

Friday 27 March 2015

6 minute read

By Sarah Burns

The first bank holiday weekend of the year always feels momentous - unless you're still working, in which case we imagine it would be sad...

Let's make the most of it by doing EVERYTHING or NOTHING - it's your time to do what YOU want. WOO!

There is nothing better than not setting your alarm on a morning - fact. Whether the sun is out or there are things that should be done, most of us will probably enjoy that lazy day watching Jeremy Kyle and consider it well-spent (hey, it's YOUR day).

So, although it might seem appealing to spend the previous week doing this:

It actually might be worthwhile to make this week count (and we don't just mean work-wise).

Let's plan our bank holiday weekend!

Prepare your desk

At 5pm on Thursday, that's it, you're going straight to the pub, bed or on holiday. Remember, those four days are still important though until you get to the pub / bed / holiday, so be productive.

  • Make a checklist of all things that need doing before you're off - complete them.
  • Tidy your office of old things that are no longer of use and wipe your desk etc - the sun is coming out and your workspace should sparkle!
  • Take the time to set up an appropriate out of office email message and voice mail for the office phone - just because you're lucky to enjoy the Bank Holiday, not everybody is.
  • Organise a team meeting to discuss what needs to be done upon returning.
  • Stay focused. Don't start daydreaming, planning and Googling Bank Holiday-related activities. It's just not clever.
  • Finally, why not set up a social media and email marketing campaign relating to your services, so when customers come back they're being engaged with straightaway?

Do nothing

  • Make lists of all things that need to be done
  • Start that box set you wanted to get through
  • Sleep! There is nothing better than enjoying a guilt-free lie-in!

Do something

  • Use THIS weekend to scour the shops for deals on DIY and home improvement materials and spend your bank holiday weekend sprucing up your home
  • Check out last minute deals THIS weekend on sites like Secret Escapes, LastMinute.com and Booking.com to find a cheap (or perhaps more appropriately, cheap for a Bank Holiday Weekend) getaway
  • Search social media and local event websites for things planned in your area
  • Ask the family / kids / dog what they want to do. Plan a family activity, whether it's getting to the park or visiting relatives
  • Browse the internet for new home furnishings to add to that room, if you don't want the hassle of painting
  • Research some gardening websites and visit garden centres, it's time to start your summer gardening
  • Start and complete that full spring clean you've promised yourself you'll do for the last 3 years...
  • If you're EXCEPTIONALLY lucky, catch a tan!

If you're looking to embark on a website build project, whether it's completely from scratch or a site refresh, our ebook will give you the knowledge to make your project as stress-free as possible.
