Facebook to Introduce Messenger Adverts for Summer 2016

Facebook is looking to add to its recent updates with the addition of adverts to its Messenger service.

The Messenger service has become a separate product to the stand alone social networking platform Facebook in recent years.

This spring, Facebook is rolling out the option for businesses that have engaged with users in the past via Facebook to then send specific adverts to them. 

Some of the biggest organisations and advertisers on Facebook are getting the first chance to use the new tool in the coming weeks.

The news comes from a leaked document from a 'verified source' that was obtained by digital news website TechCrunch [Source: The Drum]. 

Facebook is advising organisations to engage with consumers in the meantime and maximise opportunities that will soon be made available by this new feature. There is also a handy, new short URL fb.com/msg to open up chat threads immediately. 

Since the leak by TechCrunch, Facebook has attempted to reassure its 800 million users that they will 'not experience unwanted messages of any type' in an effort to reassure individuals that they will not be spammed via the platform.
