'Out with the old and in with the new...', but a spring clean doesn't have to just stop with your home...

Use this changing of the seasons as a chance to dig out the rule book, tear it up and give that marketing and PR strategy a good ol' spring clean!

Here are few tips to help you started...

1. Reminisce

Go through previous strategies, budget forecasts and plans to pick out anything that worked well for your business. Look into how they could be adapted for the new year and methods, technologies and changing attitudes and how you can improve.

Don't forget to look into what didn't turn out as well as hoped, rather than just discount it. Maybe there is a new platform or a change in business that means this could work better now. If not, you should ensure you don't make the same mistakes again.

As with everything in marketing, if it doesn't work first time around, don't wear it out and waste time, money and resource.

2. Research

It's easy to fall a little bit behind on the times, so do your research!

Learn all about the most up-to-date methods, technologies and attitudes towards business marketing, particularly in regards to your sector. For example, see how you can develop your reputation by keeping up to date with the latest news in PR.

All of this research will get those creative juices flowing and your imagination a-wandering. Allow yourself the opportunity to consider never-tried-before marketing methods, business strategies and future plans. It'll all help build a new, modern, realistic strategy.

3. Brainstorm

Brainstorming is the perfect way to get your new Marketing & PR strategy started. Get the whole team involved will help you to gather fresh ideas from different perspectives and develop them to suit your business. It's also a great way to boost team morale - they may have better ideas than you, because they're on the front line!

Make sure to write down all ideas (even the bad ones), this way you can't miss any opportunities (and you can make a note of ideas that have been ruled out too - save time in the future).

4. Set a target

Knowing exactly what you want to achieve during the year is crucial! If you don't know what to achieve how can you get there?

Plan what you want to gain from your Marketing & PR strategy by the end of the year, whether it's an increase in sales on a particular product or a successful launch of a new product or service, if you create clear step-by-step goals on how you will reach your target, you will be sure to get there.
