The North East tweeters are getting excited! This year is the second of the social media awards for Twitter users in the region who actively engage conversation and "big up" the North East.

The Journal's Chris Scott is overseeing nominations and can be contacted with queries via chris.scott@trinitymirror.com. Equally, you can adopt the #NEtwitterati hashtag to see some of the great businesses who are voting and being voted for!

We love social media, so if you would like to vote for us, feel free, but it is your chance to give a nod to the individuals and businesses that keep you company on the World Wide Web.

Launched in 2013, the competition is again recognising the chatty people of our region, so cast your votes via this link

Top Twitter Tips from Thrive:

  • #TwitterTip: B2C brands report 17% more engagement on weekends.
  • #TwitterTip: B2B see better engagement Monday - Friday.
  • #TwitterTip: Share important tweets 4x during the day, using various angles to cover time zones.
  • #TwitterTip: If Twitter is your morning task, schedule tweets for throughout the day.
  • #TwitterTip: Measure your Twitter success not by follower numbers, but by quality & level of engagement.
  • #TwitterTip: Follow 20 people with similar interests per day. That's not overwhelming and reciprocal followers will add up quickly.
  • #TwitterTip: Don't follow more than 200 people per day. Twitter might mistake you for a spam bot and suspend your account!
  • #TwitterTip: If you wouldn't say something to someone's face, don't say it on Twitter.
  • #TwitterTip: Don't be a troll on Twitter, no matter how angry you are. Twitter isn't really anonymous and your public anger could come back to haunt you.
  • #TwitterTip: Tweeting spoilers while live-tweeting TV shows or sporting events? Use the right # so people can filter it out.
  • #TwitterTip: Optimise blog titles so when people tweet them, they're catchy enough for people to click on the links.
  • #TwitterTip: Add social sharing buttons to your blog to make each post easy for readers to tweet.
  • #TwitterTip: Don't overthink your tweets. Tweeting for a company? Be agile without implementing a huge approval process.

Don't forget to make your Twitter usage fun and engaging - not only to win an award - but to provide excellent customer service and brand awareness online.
