Productivity Slowing Down? Motivate Workers With These Energising Tips

Without a doubt, it's around this time of the year that we all slow down. We are thinking of mince pies, turkey, champagne, beer, presents, family, parties... We aren't thinking about work, basically.

However, there's still time in the work calendar to get through so how can you encourage your team - and yourself - to make it productive until that final day at work?

Our guide to team motivation and energising the office, will work at any point in the year, but we think productivity is renowned for slowing down most typically in December!

Inject Life Into Your Business at Christmas

It comes down to a good relationship with your employees and being able to rely on them that they will actually be doing the work that they're supposed to be and meeting deadlines / targets.

There are understandable and easy-to-implement ways to improve productivity including:

  • Communication: The key part of the festive season is about expectations and goals, with both parties being able to voice their thoughts and opinions on such matters / concerns. If you don't give feedback and the option to speak together about such things - good and bad - then you're setting yourself up for a fall.
  • Flexibility: At a time when holidays and social plans are prevalent, it's important to ensure balance. Your employees are going to want to feel capable of speaking about issues such as time off - and they're going to want it to be fairly implemented between staff. Consider flexi-time so that as long as their contracted hours are met, staff can come and go earlier / later to meet their social interests.
  • Appreciate: With parties and present-buying, your staff are going to be less inclined to work hard. You probably feel the same way too, however it's nice to show that you understand work is less of a priority in their busy social calendars. Consider giving some kind of incentive, such as gift vouchers or a staff event such as a Christmas meal / party to look forward to. It is true that happier staff work harder!

Quick, Energising Tips for Everyone (Including Yourself and Staff)

  1. Do the important stuff first - even if you don't want to do it.
  2. Say 'no' if it isn't worth your time / money / resource.
  3. Sleep - sleep well.
  4. Don't multitask, especially if they require concentration and fit into #1.
  5. Avoid lateness - it stresses you out.
  6. Never get hung up on things that don't matter.
  7. Make regular tasks habits - it'll speed you up.
  8. Give yourself a break - even a small one - between tasks.
  9. View your list of tasks as sections, not a whole - that's too daunting.
  10. Waiting and commuting time can be valuable - make it so.
  11. Commit - to everything. Don't do things half-heartedly!
